Arena Shopping Park
has announced The Carers Trust Heart of England’s Young Carers Service as its official charity partner! We’ll be working with the charity to help over 2,000 registered young carers and their families across the city.
The Young Carers Service supports young people aged between 5 and 18 years old who have a responsibility for caring for someone with a disability, a long-term illness, mental health illness, Autism/ADHD or with an addiction to drugs or alcohol. Carers could be responsible for a family member, or even a close friend of neighbour, taking on duties including shopping, cleaning, cooking, caring for siblings and much more.
The charity’s role is to give these young people a much-needed support network, giving them an opportunity to talk to those going through similar experiences, space and time to discuss about their own issues, as well as arranging trips and activities to give them a break from their responsibilities.
Arena will be helping to help raise funds for the charity and is also planning to give rewards and experiences to the young carers and their families.
Steve Burr, Area Centre Manager at Arena Shopping Park comments, “As soon as we found out about Coventry Young Carers, we knew it would be a perfect fit as Arena’s Charity of the Year. Young Carers are an amazing group of people and have been particularly under strain during Covid-19. We can’t wait to get involved with some fun activities to help support them and their families.”
Mark Graham, Young Carers Family IAS Worker and Team Leader at the Young Carers Service adds, “Many of the young carers we support do not have the childhood experiences that many other young people take for granted. We are really excited to work with the Arena Shopping Park in supporting young carers in the Coventry area. Support like this really enhances the opportunities we can provide to young carers and their families to enable them to have the support and positive experiences they so often miss out on.
